Is it your first time attending National Competition? Well fear not! This week we spoke to Pamela Sweeney, an Enactus TCD alumni and Business Consultant at Grant Thornton Ireland who shares with us her top tips on preparing for the big day! Pamela presented at the 2015 and 2016 National Competitions and attended the 2015 Enactus World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa so has a lot to share with you guys!
‘As competition time is just around the corner now, here’s some of my top tips for getting through the day:

1. Know your lines. There’s no worse feeling on the day than when the panic sets in and you don’t know your scripts well enough – make sure you’ve read over them enough times so that once you’re up there in front of the judges it’s one thing you don’t need to worry about!

2. Make time to network. Whether it’s networking with the judges, mingling with students from other colleges or getting to know some of the Enactus Ireland alumni, you’re in a building full of like-minded, ambitious people who want to make a change in the world so make sure you leave with at least one new connection – you never know when you’ll run into these people again!

3. Practice. It can be difficult to get the team together as it’s exam season but make sure you all know the script and practice it over and over together, it will make such a difference to the flow of your presentation on the day. Don’t be that team that’s banking on getting the last presentation slot to have their first run through (it happens)! Remember what they always say, practice makes perfect!

4. Watch the other presentations. You probably joined Enactus because you heard along the way about all the amazing work being done in your college – make sure you take the time to see what projects other students have come up with and give them a round of applause for all their hard work. It’s also a great place to get inspiration for next year’s winning project!

5. And finally, enjoy the day! You’ve worked hard to get this far and Laura, Liam, Lizzie and Aoife have organized a great day for everyone so make sure you get involved in all the activities organized to get the most out of it!

The key message here is to make sure you’re prepared and everything will go smoothly. Preparation is key and you have three weeks left to make sure you’re ready, make the most of it! Best of luck to everyone competing at National Competition 2018!’
