You Are All Very Welcome Today To The Eighth Enactus Ireland National Competition

Through our mission to create a better more sustainable world through the positive power of business, Enactus is playing a key role in shaping the future business leaders, both in Ireland and around the world.

We are again delighted to welcome the ten leading Irish third level institutions involved in Enactus – Cork Institute of Technology, Dublin City University, IADT Dún Laoghaire, Maynooth University, NUI Galway, Technological University Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin and University of Limerick. We look forward to hearing about your innovative and impactful work and learning about the positive difference you have made in people’s lives.

Enactus is a unique way of engaging students: giving them key skills development opportunities; enabling students to be more socially aware and putting in place solutions to social issues; putting their academic learning into real-life practice; and potentially having the honour and prestige of being crowned the Enactus Ireland 2019 National Champion, going on to represent Ireland at the Enactus World Cup in Silicon Valley, San José, USA in September 2019.

KPMG, my former firm, has been involved in Enactus in the US since 1990, and has played a pivotal role in helping Enactus be the global organisation it is today. Today, KPMG firms support Enactus in over 30 countries.

I would like to acknowledge the participation of Enactus Ireland’s other partners – including Bank of Ireland, Abbott Ireland, Aer Lingus, AIG, CarTrawler, Citi Foundation, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, KBC Bank Ireland, MERC Partners, New Ireland Assurance, The Ireland Funds, Unilever, Havas, and HSBC. Thank you also to our supporters Chartered Accountants Ireland and our media partner, The Irish Times. Without the support, active engagement, drive and encouragement of these great partner organisations, Enactus Ireland would not be such a success today.

Finally, I want to recognise and thank all involved in the organisation of today’s National Competition, particularly all our judges and the faculty advisers who have worked with the students throughout the year.

Today is a day to celebrate the students who are actively engaging with their communities and with business in an entrepreneurial, empowering and innovative way.

Good luck to everyone involved in today’s event.

Liam Redmond
